Bangkok at seven in the morning is a different city. In Lumphini Park the heat has not settled, the paths are busy with walkers and the lake is quiet. A good wellness day can start there and cost nothing.

This guide builds a day in Bangkok around ฿2,000: a park, a temple, a Thai massage and a plant-based lunch. Every figure comes from a provider’s page or a dated article, and the table below shows the running total.

How we chose

We picked four things that are open to everyone and have published prices: a public park, a temple, a massage school inside it, and a lunch priced in a dated roundup. We used Wat Pho’s own website for the temple and massage rates. Its page carries a 2018 copyright date and no price date, so confirm the figures at the door. We did not visit any of these places.

The plan and the running total

1Lumphini Park, from 04:30Free฿0
2MRT from Lumphini to Sanam Chai, one wayUp to ฿44฿44

The base day comes to ฿1,108 in the worst case on fares. That leaves about ฿890 under the budget for swaps, tips and water. Tips are not included in any figure here.

Morning: Lumphini Park

Lumphini Park is free to enter, according to a travel guide updated in March 2026. The same guide says it opens at 04:30 and closes at 22:00, though a hotel page lists 21:00, so check the sign. It has outdoor gym areas, and joggers use the main pathway. The guide lists swan-shaped paddle boats at ฿40 an hour, a small extra if you want time on the water.

Go early, before the day warms up. Our PM2.5 feature explains how to check the air before you head out.

Getting to Wat Pho

The MRT Blue Line runs from Lumphini station to Sanam Chai, a short walk from the temple. A new fare range of ฿17 to ฿44 took effect on 3 July 2026, according to Pattaya Mail. The ฿44 ceiling applies to trips of 12 stations or more, so the real fare for this trip should be lower. We budget the maximum to stay safe.

Midday: Wat Pho and a Thai massage

Wat Pho’s website lists admission at ฿300, with children under 120 cm free. It gives hours of 08:00 to 19:30. The Thai Traditional Medical School inside the compound lists a 30-minute Thai massage at ฿340, 60 minutes at ฿520 and 120 minutes at ฿1,040.

A Thailand Foundation article, last updated in 2021, says massages are given by advanced students in open-air pavilions. You receive loose pants and lie on a firm mattress, and the platforms are not partitioned. It says some techniques can feel strenuous for a first-timer, so tell the therapist about health problems or areas to avoid. The article’s prices are lower than the school’s own current list, which shows how much these rates move. Our Wat Pho massage guide covers the school in more detail.

Dress modestly for the temple. Our temple etiquette guide explains what to wear and how to behave.

Lunch: plant-based

The Standard’s May 2025 list of healthy restaurants gives Broccoli Revolution as from ฿170 to 200 and Veganerie Concept as from about ฿200. These are press figures, not menus, and neither restaurant is beside Wat Pho. We budget ฿200 as a benchmark and suggest checking a restaurant’s current menu before you go.

How the day fits together

The times work in your favour. The park opens at 04:30, while Wat Pho and its massage school both list 08:00 as opening time. That leaves a long morning for a walk before you head across town. The older Thailand Foundation article counts 20 massage platforms and says waits depend on the queue, so arriving soon after opening is the simplest way to avoid a long wait. Lunch then falls after the massage, when most people want something light.

You can combine some of these. A 120-minute massage and a paddle boat bring the day to ฿1,668, still within ฿2,000. The sound bath price comes from The Beat’s December 2025 roundup, and our sound healing guide describes what a session involves.

Know before you go

  • Check Wat Pho’s hours and massage rates on the day, since the page is undated.
  • Arrive at the massage pavilion early, as the Thailand Foundation article advises, because waits depend on the queue.
  • Carry water and cover your shoulders and knees for the temple.
  • Tell the therapist about injuries, pregnancy or any health condition. If you have one, check with your doctor before a massage.
  • Keep a small margin for tips, which no source lists a rate for.

A day like this works because it is simple. A walk, a temple and a lunch you enjoy need no booking and little money.
